KeyFilm’s international co-productions The Night of a Thousand Hours and Beyond Sleep receive support from the Netherlands Production Incentive. The new program was unveiled by the Netherlands Film Fund at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. It offers a 30% cash rebate on production costs incurred by film companies in the Netherlands to increase the attractiveness of the Netherlands for both national and international productions.
The Night of a Thousand Hours is a co-production between Amour Fou Vienna, Amour Fou Luxembourg and KeyFilm, written and directed by Virgil Widrich. This mix of costume drama, comedy, love story and whodunit thriller tells the story of young Philip who needs to uncover his family mystery, with an ultra modern visual and digital look created between director of photography Christian Berger (Das Weisse Band, Cache) and production designers Christina Schaffer and Filmmore.
This 6.5 million project, already supported by their national Film Funds and Eurimages, receives 336.450,-
Beyond Sleep is a co-production between KeyFilm, Neofilm Norway and the VPRO. The film is based on the Dutch bestselling novel ‘Nooit meer slapen’ by Willem Frederik Hermans, written and directed by Boudewijn Koole (Kauwboy, European Film Awards Discovery of the year, 2012), to be shot in Lapland, Norway. The film is about a young man (Reinout Scholten van Aschat) and his mythical quest for a stone that fell from the sky. He searches, stumbles and suffers as he traverses the sadistic universe of Northern Europe. He only finds redemption on the very edge of madness.
